ere's some information about myself and my comic strip, "Orville".
I was born in Canal Zone, Panama (U.S.A.) on January 17, 1970. I moved
to live in sunny San Diego, California at about the age of four. I am student
of law here in San Diego - however, law has not always been my first
ambition. Ever since I can recall I've always been interested in animation.
As a studying animator I pursued the field as far as I could, but since there
were no schools in San Diego that taught animation, and unable to
relocate to Los Angeles where the nearest animation school was located,
I soon pursued other alternatives to cartooning.
As a great admirer of B.C. , the "belated" Calvin and Hobbs and comics
in general I thought about creating my own strip, but about what!? I knew
that in order for a comic strip to be successful it must be both original
and uniquely funny. So...
Welcome to Hodges Pond - home of Orville, Roy, Steve, Ralph, Rudy and
the rest of the gang! In a nut shell this is what Orville is all about .
This comic strip is about being yourself, seeing life through your own
point of view. Hey, we're all different and that's Ok. It's that
uniqueness in all of us that makes life interesting and what makes this
strip funny. I've discovered that just about everyone of us can relate to
each of the unique characters in "Orville".
Orville is based mainly on my own personality, he is in essence a
dreamer holding strong to his ambition to someday fly. Roy is more the
antagonist, as he sets the stage for some interesting situations. Even
though Orville seems to be the target of Roy's aggression, you can rest
assured it's all in good clean fun. Orville and Roy's friendship is based
in part on my relationship with my best friend. While they may
always seem to be at odds with each other, they'll always be the best of friends. Ralph is based on another of my friends, who I named the character after. Ralph is not as serious as he portrays to be on the
surface. Steve is more or less the
philosophical side of me. He kind of reflects my weird outlook on life,
while Rudy represents the rascally part of me. You could say Roy has
taught him well. Archie represents that little voice of reason inside all
of us. Although Archie may have a firm grasp on reality, it's not easy for
him to be the voice of reason to someone as determined as Orville.
In short, each of the characters in "Orville" are based on actual
personalities, although not as literal as they appear in the comic strip. The
strip is set in peaceful Hodges Pond. I thought it would be interesting. |
