VIDEO GAME TRADING CARDS and POSTERS at ICON GALLERY
Hundreds of noted individuals from the global video game culture appear on video game trading cards in
an exhibition at ICON Gallery. The exhibit, titled "The Video Game Trading Cards & Posters of Twin
Galaxies," is now open and will run through August 11th. It features more than 600 colorful trading cards
and posters designed by Fairfield resident Walter Day. "Walter is famous in the gaming world," says ICON
Director Bill Teeple. "He is known globally as the "Scorekeeper" for the video world. It’s an honor to have
Walter choose ICON for this historic event." The exhibition is open daily from 11 AM until 5 PM.
Over 100 celebrities from around the U.S. featured on the cards will convene at ICON on Saturday, August
10th, where they will meet the public and autograph cards. Saturday night all the "trading card celebrities"
in attendance will be honored in a Red-Carpet Awards Ceremony at the Fairfield Arts and Convention
Center. Following the awards ceremony will be a Video Game Film Festival.
The trading card set was created to commemorate the history of the global video game culture, honoring
the iconic industry pioneers, the video game personalities, the world record holders & tournament
champions and the landmark milestones, inventions and historic events. Walter Day, creator of the card
set, says: "Each card is like a little window into the history of the video game age. Not only have we
created cards that honor famous people and events, but we have also documented the lives of many
people who have contributed greatly to the video game industry who have been overlooked by the history
books. All these forgotten people are like thousands of colorful threads in a big tapestry and, together,
they form a picture that tells the story of the video game age. And, we want these cards to tell their story.
It is my hope that history teachers in the future can use these cards to teach their students about the
people and games who launched the video game culture."
Day says, "The ICON Gallery was chosen to host this event because it is one of the more progressive and
distinguished art galleries in America's Midwest region. It will elevate the proceedings to a sophisticated
level, giving the honorees the prominent recognition they deserve."
This exhibition was funded through contributions from Eric Tessler, of LaHabra, CA. Mr. Tessler is an
acclaimed member of the arcade restoration community in California and is a distinguished supporter of
video game cinema. He is the Executive Producer of two video game documentary films slated for release
in 2013. They are The King of Arcades (Directed by Sean & Krystle Tiedeman) and The Video Craze
(Directed by Dave Danzara).
